GUN DEFENCE & control

Always remember that if an attacker wishes to shoot you he'll do it from a distance - there is absolutely no reason to get close to you.

Although the gun may look like a replica you must assume it is real and contains live rounds.

The majority of attackers will use a gun because they think it makes them look 'hard' when they intimidate their victim.

Infact, when they stick the gun in your face, or anywhere within your disarm range, it simply illustrates that they know nothing about weapon retention.

Always adopt a submissive posture and be compliant when threatened - there is no sense in escalating the situation.

Avoid eye contact with your attacker since he might be able to read your intentions or alternatively he might be concerned that you could easily identify him later on.

If possible passify the attacker verbally while looking at his chest.... "Ok man...no problem...I have money for you..." etc.

If you have a wallet or mobile give them up - they can easily be replaced.

If you intend to disarm your attacker you should aim to do it mid-way through a sentence since his brain will be multitasking while he is assimilating what you are saying to him. Eg. "Ok man...no problem...I have...." now perform your technique.

Always think about your surroundings when redirecting your attacker's line of fire.

If your wife is standing on your left you may want to redirect the line of fire to your right (maybe!). Alternatively, redirecting overhead might be an option.

After disarming your attacker you should always aim to create distance - at least 4 metres. If the gun is a replica and he now pulls a knife you want to be able to escape if possible.

If you disarm him and remain in close proximity he could take the gun back (disarm you) or attack with his fists, knees, elbows, etc.

All gun confrontations should be seen as potentially lethal situations and you should always exercise caution before doing anything.
